As I walked to my car, my cell rang. It was Hank.

I got into the car to block out traffic sounds on University then answered.

“You’ve reached Joe’s Crab Shack, may I take your order?”

“I’m not hungry. I was trying to call Jonathan Shade,” Hank said, confused.

“You got him,” I said. “Sorry to confuse you. What you got, Hank?”

“I found the father.”

“Do tell. Where are you?”

“Downtown on the 16th Street Mall. The father is meeting with some guy at one of those hip little restaurants. Place called … oh, hell, I don’t know how to pronounce it. N-O-I-R-O-N apostrophe S.”

“Noiron’s?” I asked pronouncing noir like in film noir.

“I don’t know, man. I’d call it Now Ron’s as if Ron just bought the place.”

“Or Noy Ron’s. Or No Iron’s because golfers aren’t allowed.”

“We’ll go with your first one,” he said. “Meet me outside Noiron’s.”

“I’ll be there in twenty minutes,” I said. “Has he spotted you?”

“Of course not. And even if he did, he’d have no idea who I am. He doesn’t look like he’s paying any attention to anyone other than the guy at his table. Older guy in a nice suit. Probably a politician or a rich banker.”

“On my way,” I said, and retrieved my gun from the glove compartment.
